Jones was banned for five matches last week after being found guilty of racially abusing Hector, and she immediately decided to retire from football.Hector has since been ‘victimised’ on social media, Kick It Out’s Troy Townsend revealed last week.In a statement, Women in Football said: “Women in Football wishes to express disgust at the disgraceful and wholly unacceptable racial abuse directed at Renee Hector of Tottenham Ladies on social media.“We would like to commend Renee for calling out the racial abuse she received while playing for Spurs against Sheffield United, and the prompt action taken by the relevant governing bodies and club.“However, the targeting of Rene on social media, along with other players who have spoken out in recent times, is an issue that must be urgently addressed. “There is no place for racism, sexism, homophobia or any other form of discrimination in our game and society.”It is alleged Jones made monkey noises towards Hector, with Sheffield United sacking her after the guilty verdict.Jones insists she is innocent, and appeared to slam the Football Association as a governing body she ‘does not have any confidence in.I would like to state on record that I do not condone racism in any form and I will continue to stand by this statement, Jones said.I strongly stand firm that I am not guilty with regards to the charge that the FA have brought against me.”“I am struggling to come to terms with this decision and how The FA can come to a verdict based on probability from the two witness accounts verbally given, instead of reviewing the case and its evidence, in its entirety, based on the Sport Law and Practice Second Edition stating the more serious the allegation the greater degree of satisfaction required.”Sophie Jones (L) has retired from football after her sacking by Sheffield United2
